I'm not the biggest fan of New Year's resolutions. I feel like there's so much pressure attached to them. But I'm a fan of manifestation (actually, last year I wrote a blog post about the vision board that you can read HERE) and writing down what you want in life, either that being on New Year or any other time of the year. That's why I'm loving this trend that I've been seeing on social media lately: 2024 Ins and Outs. Basically, things you want to bring with you to the new year and things you want to leave behind. I really like this trend because people actually share things that you can totally achieve. Small things that you can do to improve your life. So here are my 2024 ins & outs. I would love it if you could share yours with me. And even if you don't want to share them, just take a few minutes of your day to write them down, it can be really therapeutic.

“And the truth is, I was only ever going out to find someone to stay in with.’ He half laughs at his own sentimentality. ‘I don’t do well without responsibilities. I’ve accepted that I’m quite a boring bloke. I like having people to look after and feed.”

I'm pretty sure that by now you know I'm a big fan of Dolly Alderton. But Ghosts, her first novel, wasn't my favourite so I wasn't sure if 'Good Material', her newest novel, would be my cup of tea but I really love it. First of all, I was very surprised by the main character and narrator being a male. Dolly is such an icon of girlhood that this caught me a bit off guard but she nailed it. I think only a very good writer could do something like this and turn it into such a relatable book. So throughout this book, we follow Andy: a struggling comedian in his 30s who's going through a terrible heartbreak. A heartbreak he didn't see coming. So, naturally, he falls apart. And makes terrible decisions. But the good part is that you can totally understand his point of view. Dolly did an amazing job of narrating his journey from going rock bottom to slowly finding himself again. The characters are credible and the dialogues go from being very sad to truly hilarious (as in the real Dolly style). I adored it. It felt like a modern version of High Fidelity (another book that I love). She really knows how to write about relationships in the modern world. You know how people have a comfort TV show, then I have a comfort writer and Dolly Alderton sure is the one.

This is going to be the last post before Christmas so I really wanted to post this outfit I wore for a Christmas dinner because, to be honest with you on Christmas Eve I'll probably be in a tracksuit. I truly love this outfit but I need something a bit more comfortable (and giving) so I can stuff myself with delicious food and even better cocktails. This is not going to be a long post as usual, I just really wanted to wish you all a Merry Christmas. You who still read this blog are very special to me, we are like a little family and I really appreciate you all. Have fun this Christmas, I wish you all the best. Lots of love!

Long time, no see.

Long time, no see. But I really wanted these photos to be the next post on the blog, but it took me more than I was expecting to finish this roll of film. These photos are already from the beginning of December from a weekend getaway in Lisbon with my girlfriends. I think you can tell by the photos how much fun it was. Girl therapy on another level. I hope you like the photos.

Não me interpretem mal, eu adoro ver. Aliás, vlogs no geral. Acompanham Vlogmas? Acham que ainda é relevante?

It's officially December. It's the most wonderful time of the year. Not only because we are on the countdown for Christmas but also because it's Vlogmas time. As a person who loves watching vlogs, having a new one to watch after a long day out in the cold wrapped up in a blanket with a warm drink in hand, it almost feels like Santa came early. But I can't help but think: is Vlogmas still a thing? Don't get me wrong, I love watching them. I'm even doing it over on TikTok and I'm having so much fun. But I feel like fewer and fewer Youtubers are doing them. Actually, vlogs in general. I feel like the Youtubers I used to follow don't want to have such an intimate look into their lives on the Internet. And, yes, I get it. And I bet it's a lot of work. I have to record and edit the videos I'm doing for TikTok every single day, and I'm sure it's even more work if you're uploading on YouTube. But isn't it worth it? Having all those memories recorded? And knowing that you're making the day of someone just a little bit happier? It almost feels like it's the end of an era and it's quite sad. Of all the Youtubers I follow, only one is doing Vlogmas and the videos are quite short and superficial. It's not the real meaning of Vlogmas. I miss the gold old days when Youtubers shared all the Christmas activities they were doing and their real lives.  Maybe it's just the people I follow, maybe I need to find other creators on YouTube. But what do you think? Do you watch Vlogmas? Are they still a thing?

"Food was how my mother expressed her love. No matter how critical or cruel she could seem—constantly pushing me to meet her intractable expectations—I could always feel her affection radiating from the lunches she packed and the meals she prepared for me just the way I liked them."

Today I bring the review of one of my favourite books I've read this year: Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner. You probably know her as the lead singer of the indie band Japanese Breakfast but to be completely honest with you, I've never heard about her or knew the band. But this book is a memoir, and, as you know, I'm a sucker for non-fiction. And it really didn't disappoint. It's amazing how all my favourite memoirs are written by musicians (Just Kids, I'm talking about you). But this one it's about growing up as a Korean-American in the United States and she really does a great job of explaining the difficulty of having a mixed-racial identity and feeling as an outsider wherever you are. It's also about Michelle's complicated relationship with her parents, and her experience of losing her mother. As she navigates through her pain and grief, she uses Korean foods she holds dear to commemorate her mother by learning how to cook them. It's very moving. It has been a long time since a book made me cry, but this one really did it. It's impossible not to feel the pain Michelle has as she says goodbye to her mother. It's quite hard for me to review a memoir, after all is someone's real life, all I can say is that this is a must-read. It's beautifully written and full of emotion. Highly recommend.

No, I haven't forgotten about this blog. I just have been through a writer's block lately. I had these photos ready for ages but I just didn't know what to talk about. I just had no inspiration. I wrote a million different things and ended up deleting everything because I just didn't feel it. It felt forced and it didn't feel like me. I just don't know how to explain it, but it's not always easy to write just for fun. I work as a content writer so at the end of the working day and writing again, it's not always easy for me. Sometimes I have a topic in mind and things just flow, other times I just stand in front of the computer, literally looking at myself (these photos) and not knowing what to write about. Just for you to have an idea, this post was already titled: 'What I Like About Autumn' (who cares?), 'I Think I Like This Little Life' (an analogy with the super trendy song and a deep dive into the topic that started feeling a bit too motivational speaker of me) and 'ahsdhaush' (what I write when I don't know what to write about). And here I am turning things around and writing about having nothing to write about, clever, right? But I literally have nothing else to say. No rant. No discussion. I just really wanted to post these photos. I'll try to bring something more interesting next time. I hope you like the outfit at least.

If you follow me on social media, you probably saw that this last weekend I went to Serra da Estrela at Rota das Faias. I really loved it, the hiking trail is so beautiful. You can see the photos in this post, but believe it or not, it's even prettier in real life. But I'll leave all the info in this post so you can know all about it.

'How To Dress Like A Portuguese Girlie', já ouviram, certo? 'First of all, put on some funky pants, then find a shirt that apparently doesn't match' etc, etc. Eu não me visto assim.

'How to dress like a Portuguese girlie', have you heard it? 'First of all, put on some funky pants, then find a shirt that apparently doesn't match' and so on. It's a TikTok trend. And it became viral for people doing it, but also for people criticizing it. Which side I'm on? Honestly, none. I can understand both. On one hand, it's a very beautiful style. It's fun and interesting. Maybe a bit more Danish than Portuguese, but it's just some TikTok content, there's no need to take it so personally and be offended by it. There's always the possibility of doing your own version of the trend like I've seen it before and found it genial. But I can also understand the people who said that Portuguese girls don't dress like this. I don't dress like this. My friends don't dress like this. And, honestly, only a certain type of girl dresses like this *cough cough* "betas" (that, summing up, is a Portuguese word to refer to someone who comes from a wealthy family). And please don't take this the wrong way. We all dress like whatever we want, but is this 'Portuguese girl aesthetic' starting to feel like all the same? Yes, it has. Does inspire me? Not really. But I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people who don't like my style either. And if there's only one person who finds that inspiring, then I think it's worth sharing. We are all free to like (and dress) whatever we want, that being the 'funky pants' or just a casual pair of jeans (or a mini skirt in my case). Let your inner Portuguese girlie shine either way.

Desde que li o 'I Feel Bad About My Neck' (podem ler a minha review AQUI), fiquei super fã da Nora Ephron.

Since I read 'I Feel Bad About My Neck' (you can read my review HERE), I became a Nora Ephron fan. I watched many movies she wrote but I really wanted to read more of her books. I read a bunch of good reviews about 'Heartburn' (which actually also has a movie based on it) and my good friends were very kind to offer me the book on my birthday. Heartburn is the only novel by Nora Ephron, but the truth is that it's based on her life. This book is a fictionalized version of how her high-profile marriage exploded when her husband cheated on her while she was seven months pregnant with their second child. Saying this, it looks like it's going to be a very heavy and sad book, but it's not, It's amazing how Nora Ephron has the ability to make you laugh when you're reading about heartbreak. It's amazing how she can turn ordinary moments into comedy gold. She's such a good writer that this book almost feels like a warm hug, even when you are reading about such a hard thing as cheating and betrayal. But Nora Ephron really knows how to do it. And that includes recipes, Rachel, the main character of this book, is a cookbook author after all so be ready for lots of cooking references and literal recipes in the middle of the story. But that's another thing I loved about his book: how she combines food with life and relationships. If 'When Harry Met Sally' and 'You've Got Mail' (both written by her) are the movies to watch during Autumn, then 'Heartburn' is the book to read. I highly recommend it. And if you are going through a heartbreak or know someone who is, just buy this book, trust me.

"“I look out the window and I see the lights and the skyline and the people on the street rushing around looking for action, love, and the world's greatest chocolate chip cookie, and my heart does a little dance.”

I'll take these photos of me wearing my beloved Forever blazer to talk a little bit about the Djerf Avenue controversy. I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about but if you don't, summing up, people are now trying to cancel Matilda Djerf (you can just search on TikTok and you can go more in-depth about the subject). So, about that: I'm so tired of people, in this case influencers, trying to bring other influencers down just to try to make themselves feel better. And doing content about it. Is it just me who feels very wrong to do content on such a negative note? I know it will probably bring lots of views, but is it worth it? Is it inspiring? Does it fulfil you? I'm pretty sure it doesn't. And I've seen this a lot lately. First case: an influencer that I've been following for a while launched a clothing brand, and you know what are the first stories she does about it? Making fun of influencers asking her to gift her some items. I'm not saying they are right, of course, if you like the brand, you should support it, after all, it's a new brand. But is it really necessary to do content about it? And shaming them? Especially, if you are an influencer yourself. Don't tell me that you have never asked for free stuff, because I don't believe it. We have all done it. I have. And I'm not ashamed to say it. And now all this Djerf Avenue controversy. I'm not going to say who's right or wrong, personally, I love the brand and the clothes I have from them are still my favourites ever, but if you decide to do content bringing people down, then you are definitely wrong. It really upsets me and makes me feel sick to my stomach. And several influencers that I used to follow, decided to jump on the bandwagon and create mean content about it. Well, it's not the content I want to see. There's so much negativity in the real world, when I go on social media I want to disconnect, laugh, relax and see some positivity. Let's be the reason why someone believes in good, not the opposite. We can all do better.

I'm so sorry for the amount of photos but I took two rolls of film with me to Italy and I really love the final result, I think I have here some of my favourite photos ever. I'm really glad I have this place because, at least, these photos are not just a post on social media that you see on the little screen of your phone (no shame if you're reading this on your phone but you can always check them later on your laptop). I hope you like these photos as much as I do. And I confess, creating this post really made me miss Italy.
