Durante imenso tempo, fotografar com outras pessoas era bastante difícil para mim. Como introvertida que sou (ou ambivertida mas isso é o tópico de outro post completamente diferente), ser fotografada não é algo natural em mim. Na verdade, quando comecei este blog tirava todas as fotografias sozinha. Mas depois de o fazer durante tantos anos, já é algo a que estou habituada. Aliás, estava tão habituada que estava presa na minha zona de conforto. Tirava fotografias com as minhas amigas e era isso. Até que me apercebi o quão divertido é quando dois criativos se juntam e criam algo completamente diferente. Eu tenho a minha visão e a minha estética, mas, por vezes, também é bom vermos algo de outra perspectiva e colaborar com outros criativos tem sido uma experiência fantástica. Claro que gosto de colaborar com pessoas com as quais me identifico, mas outras pessoas terão sempre algo diferente para dizer, algo diferente que querem criar e adoro isso. Estas fotografias foram o resultado de uma dessas colaborações que correu muito bem. A Ana é uma fotógrafa fantástica e adoro o que ela fez com estas fotografias. Por isso, esta é uma chamada para todos os criativos que estão desse lado. Se gostam do meu trabalho e gostavam de colaborar comigo, let's do it. For the longest time that was very hard for me to shoot with other people. As an introvert (or ambivert, but that's the topic of another blog post), taking photos doesn't come naturally to me. Actually, when I first started this blog I took all the photos by myself. But after doing it for so many years, I am now used to it. I was so used to it that I was stuck in my comfort zone for the longest time. I took photos with my friends and that was it. Until I realise how much fun it is when two creatives get together and create something completely different. I have my vision and my aesthetic but I love to change things up once in a while, and collaborating with other people has been an amazing experience. Of course, I like to work with people I identify with but other people will always have something different to say, something different put out there, and I love that. These photos are the result of one of those collaborations that went really well. Ana is an amazing photographer and I love what she did here. So here I am calling out all the creatives. Comecei a ler este livro sem quaisquer expectativas. Aliás, já tinha lido 'A Ilha' da mesma autora e, apesar de ter gostado, não foi um livro que me marcou, mas este, pelo contrário, adorei. Falo de 'O Regresso' da Victoria Hislop. A personagem principal é Sonia, uma mulher de meia-idade que vive um casamento infeliz, mas que encontra a sua felicidade nas aulas de dança que começa a frequentar com a sua amiga. Juntamente com essa mesma amiga, vai numa viagem até Granada, Espanha, onde decide tirar um curso de dança. Durante a sua viagem, conhece um empregado de um café que lhe conta a história da família Ramirez e da Guerra Civil Espanhola. É aqui que o livro começa a ficar interessante. Eu não sabia nada sobre a Guerra Civil Espanhola e sobre a sua brutalidade. Vivemos no país ao lado Espanha e nunca aprendemos na escola a crueldade pela qual o povo espanhol passou. E foi isto que eu adorei neste livro, aprender sobre um período real da história do qual eu não sabia quase nada, enquanto me era contada uma história. Algumas partes da história são bastante previsíveis, mas foi um livro do qual gostei muito. É mesmo uma leitura perfeita para o Verão (estou já a tratar dum post com algumas sugestões deste género, por isso fiquem atentos).


I started reading this book with no expectations at all. Actually, I've read 'The Island' by the same writer and even though I enjoyed it, it didn't blow me away, but I loved this one. I'm talking about 'The Return' by Victoria Hislop. The main character is Sonia, a middle-aged woman who lives an unhappy marriage, but finds her happiness in dance classes. Together with her best friend, she heads to Granada to take a dance course. While on her trip, she meets an elderly waiter at a café who tells her the story of the Ramirez family and the Spanish Civil War. And here is where the book starts to get interesting. I knew nothing about the Spanish Civil War and its brutality. I literally live in the country next to Spain and I didn't learn in school what the Spanish people went through. So I really liked that, to know more about a period in history that I knew so little while being told a story.  Some parts of the story are very predictable, but I really liked the book. It's the perfect beach-read (I'm already planning a post about this with some suggestions so stay tuned for that as well).

Tenho a certeza que têm, neste momento, no fundo do vosso armário alguma sweatshirt. I'm pretty sure you have a sweatshirt seating in your wardrobe right now. You know that I am a very big fan of basics and I truly think everyone should have a couple of good sweatshirts in their wardrobes. They will literally take you anywhere. You can wear them around the house, to the gym, for a day around town, you name it. É engraçado como todos nós publicamos nas redes sociais uma ideia de algo que somos ou uma parte de nós, mas se virarmos o espelho ao contrário e analisarmos aquilo que nos é sugerido pelas próprias redes sociais, o tal algoritmo de que tanto se fala, podemos perceber imenso aquilo que realmente somos. Já tinham pensado nisso? Para vos dar um exemplo, a minha "For You Page" resume-se a: ideias de oufits, vídeos fofos de cães e cafés giros para visitar em várias cidades. Se isto não sou eu resumida em três frases, então não sei quem sou. É engraçado (e assustador ao mesmo tempo) o quanto estas redes sociais sabem de nós e escolhem exatamente o tipo de conteúdo que queremos ver (eu sei que não escolhem, tudo se resume ao tempo que ficamos a ver cada vídeo, os likes, comentários...vocês percebem a ideia). Será que chegamos ao ponto em que os algoritmos nos conhecem melhor do que nós a nós próprios? Talvez se tivesse de escolher as categorias que me seriam apresentadas no TikTok, por exemplo, nunca iria escolher cães, mas que são os vídeos que mais vejo em loop é um facto. Por isso, adorava que respondessem à pergunta que dá título a este post: o que diz o vosso algoritmo sobre vocês? O meu diz que sou uma millennial (vídeos de danças que a Gen Z tanto gosta raramente me aparecem no feed), sou uma dog mom que adora passear pela cidade para conhecer todos os cafés novos em outfits que a fazem sentir super confiante.



It's funny how we all share on social media an idea of us or a part of ourselves, but if we turn the lens around and analyse what these social media apps suggest to us to see, the algorithm that everyone talks about, we can understand what we really are. Have you thought about this before? To give you an example, my "For you" page summarizes to: outfits ideas, cute dog videos and nice cafés around the world. If this isn't me, then I don't really know myself. It's funny (and scary at the same time) how much these social media apps know about us and choose the content we really want to see (I know they don't choose, it's all based on the amount of time we watch certain videos, our likes, comments...but you get the idea). Do you think we're getting to a point where these algorithms know us better than we know ourselves? Maybe if I had to choose the categories I wanted to watch on TikTok, I wouldn't choose dogs, but here I am watching cute dogs videos in a loop. So, I would love it if you could answer the question above: what does your algorithm say about you? Mine says that I am a millennial (I could never watch those dance videos that Gen Z loves so much), that I am a dog mom and love to stroll around town knowing all the new cafés in a fabulous outfit.

Para ser sincera com vocês, hoje estava a pensar escrever outro post, mas, como sabem, este passado fim-de-semana estive pelo Alentejo, em Évora para ser mais específica, e gostei tanto que achei que devia fazer um travel guide sobre esta cidade. O nosso país tem sítios lindos e, depois deste fim-de-semana, fiquei ainda com mais vontade de os conhecer. Por isso, aqui está o meu Évora Travel Guide.


To be honest with you, I was planning on posting something else today but, as you know, this last weekend I went to Alentejo, Évora to be more specific, and I thought I should do a travel guide about this city. Portugal has many beautiful places and my will to visit them has grown a lot after this weekend. So here is my Évora travel guide.

Comecei a ler este tipo sem qualquer tipo de expectativa, até porque foi uma amiga que me emprestou (thanks Li) e tenho-vos a dizer que foi dos meus livros favoritos que li este ano. O livro em questão é o Adults da Emma Jane Unsworth. O livro conta a história de Jenny, uma rapariga de 35 anos que, aparentemente, tem a vida completamente resolvida. Mas como todas as pessoas que aparentemente têm uma vida perfeita, ela não tem. O seu marido deixou-a, ela é viciada nas redes sociais e a sua amiga de longa data quer deixar de ser sua amiga. Parece um livro super triste, mas, na verdade, é o oposto. A história é contada através da Jenny e, apesar de ela ser insegura, ansiosa e arrogante, ela é também extremamente engraçada. Já há muito tempo que não ria tanto a ler um livro (a referência ao Father John Misty foi simplesmente genial). Acho que qualquer millenial vai gostar deste livro. Mas, apesar de tudo, também existem momentos mais sérios e observações bastante importantes sobre o mundo em que vivemos. Não é um livro super denso, é uma leitura fácil e, por vezes, uma leitura fácil é tudo o que precisamos. Gostei mesmo muito.

I started reading this book with no expectations, actually, it was a friend of mine who lent it to me (thanks Li) and I have to tell you that it is one of my favourite books I have read this year. The book I'm talking about is Adults by Emma Jane Unsworth. It tells the story of Jenny, a thirty-five-year-old who apparently has her life together. But just like everyone who looks like they have a perfect life, she doesn't. Her husband left her, she is addicted to social media and her best friend wants to break up with her. I know this sound quite depressing, but it's actually a very fun book. The story is told through Jenny and although she's insecure, anxious, and arrogant, she's also extremely funny. It has been a while since I laugh as much as I did while reading a book. Her observations are just so good (the Father John Misty reference really cracked me up). I feel like any millennial will relate to this book. But this book also has some serious moments and some important observations on today's world. It's not a mind-blowing book, it's a very easy read and sometimes that's exactly what a girl needs. I truly loved it.

Já há algum tempo que não publicava um 'Film Diary' (não por culpa minha, mas porque ultimamente tem sido bastante difícil arranjar rolo), mas é um conteúdo que adoro partilhar com vocês. It has been a while since I last posted a 'Film Diary' (it's not my fault, it has been really hard to find film lately), but it's a kind of content I love to share with you. In this post, you can find photos taken in Lisbon, Ericeira and Porto. I hope you like the photos.


 


Um destes dias, enquanto fazia um piquenique na praia, em cerca de 20 minutos vi diversas pessoas a fotografar ao pé do mar. E quanto digo isto, não eram o tipo de fotografias que os turistas tiram para relembrar o momento, não, eram o tipo de fotografias que se tiram com diferentes poses com vista a publicar nas redes sociais. Claro que também eu já lá tinha estado a tirar as minhas fotografias e a criar o meu conteúdo, mas será que somos todos content creators hoje em dia? Numa altura em que as redes sociais estão tão intrínsecas nas nossas vidas, consigo compreender que as pessoas queiram criar conteúdo para alimentar essas mesmas, mas, vivendo um pouco dentro desta indústria, não posso deixar de me questionar: são todas as pessoas que criam conteúdo, criadores de conteúdo? Eu sei que pode parecer uma pergunta um pouco estúpida, mas acho mesmo que há uma linha muito ténue entre estes dois termos. E como conseguimos distinguir um do outro? Pela qualidade do conteúdo? É relativo. Pela quantidade de seguidores? É relativo também. Seremos mesmo todos criadores de conteúdo? Por um lado, gostava de dizer que não, mas, ao mesmo tempo, também não tenho uma resposta para as perguntas anteriores. O que vocês acham? Adorava saber a vossa opinião.


One of these days, while I was having a picnic at the beach, in just 20 minutes I watched a bunch of people taking photos by the sea. And when I say this is not those photos tourists take to capture the moment, no, it was the kind of photos you take posing in several different ways to post on social media. Of course, a couple of minutes before, I was also taking pictures and creating my content, but that made me wonder: is everyone a content creator nowadays? In a time when social media is so ingrained in our lives, I can understand that people want to create content to "feed" them, but living in this industry, I keep asking myself this question: is anyone who creates content a content creator? I know this might sound like a silly question, but I really think there's a fine line diving these two words. And how can we differentiate one from another? Is it by the quality of the content? It's relative. Is it by the number of followers? Is relative as well. Are we really all content creators? In my mind, I want to say no but, at the same time, I don't have an answer to those questions. What do you think? I would love to know your opinion on this.


 


Há uns dias, publiquei estas fotografias no Instagram e recebi algumas mensagens a perguntar como se cria este efeito nas fotografias. Se querem fazer algo deste género, então este post é para vocês. A verdade é que não é efeito nenhum, é algo que criam no momento em que tiram a fotografia e é algo bastante fácil de fazer. O segredo está na velocidade com que tiram a fotografia e, para criarem este feito, têm de ter uma velocidade bastante baixa e algum movimento na fotografia. O que eu faço é pôr a câmara no modo TV (prioridade de velocidade, isto se tiverem um modelo Canon, o modo pode ter outro nome da vossa câmara) e baixar este número até ter o efeito que quero. Tão fácil quanto isto. Se recriarem este tipo de fotografias, identifiquem-me, adorava ver!


A few days ago I posted these photos on my Instagram and I got a few messages asking me how to get this effect on photos. If you want to create photos like these, this post is for you. The truth is that this is not an effect, it's something you make when you take the photo and it's very easy to do. The secret is in the speed at which you take the photo, and to get this effect you have to lower the shutter speed of your camera and have some movement. What I usually do is get the camera on the TV mode (shutter-speed priority, if you have a Canon camera, it can have another name if you have another model) and choose a slow shutter speed until I get the result I want. As easy as this. If you end up recreating these photos, tag me, I would love to see them.


 


Provavelmente, se não forem influencers/freelancers este post não vos interessa muito, mas, no fundo, também acho que representa muito bem o nosso país e acredito que é algo que acontece em muitas outras áreas também. É um assunto que falo imensas vezes com outras influencers, mas acho mesmo que tem de ser exposto e que o que se tem vindo a passar tem de acabar de uma vez por todas. Toda a gente sabe que o nosso ganha-pão é fazer campanhas no Instagram e é algo que eu gosto mesmo de fazer, mas não posso deixar de notar uma enorme diferença quando trabalho com marcas/agências portuguesas, ou quando são internacionais. Marcas portuguesas: briefings ridículos, captions já escritas sem o nosso "tom de voz", pressão constante para fazer a publicação, pagamentos tardios e datas raramente cumpridas. Marcas internacionais: liberdade criativa para criarmos o nosso conteúdo de acordo com a nossa estética, datas sempre cumpridas e, acima de tudo, respeito pelo nosso trabalho. Isto até pode não ser a regra, e espero mesmo que não seja, mas, infelizmente, a minha experiência é esta. Posso dizer que nunca tive uma experiência positiva com uma marca/agência em Portugal. Há uns tempos, no espaço de uma semana, fiz duas campanhas: uma para uma marca internacional e outra para uma marca portuguesa. A internacional foi a primeira que fiz e já me foi paga, a portuguesa...acho que conseguem adivinhar a resposta. Já não basta muitas vezes quererem o nosso conteúdo em troca de nada, mas como ainda acontecem situações como estas constantemente. Eu sei que pode parecer um problema de primeiro mundo, mas é o nosso trabalho e é um espelho daquilo que acontece em Portugal. Desculpem este post um bocadinho mais sério, mas era mesmo algo que tinha de deitar cá para fora e acredito que se nos unirmos as situações vão ser cada vez mais escassas. Partilhem este post, comentem, se já tiveram experiências positivas partilhem comigo, mas vamos acabar com isto de uma vez por todas.


If you're not an influencer/freelancer this post, probably, doesn't say much to you, but deep down I think it really represents my country and I believe it's something that happens in other areas as well. It's a topic I talk about a lot with other influencers, and I really think everyone should be talking about it because what has been going on has to stop. Everyone knows that Instagram campaigns are our main source of income and it's something I really enjoy doing, but I can't help but notice a huge difference between working with Portuguese brands/agencies and international ones. Portuguese brands: crazy briefings, captions are already written totally missing our tone of voice, constant pressure to post, late payments and dates are barely respected. International brands: creative freedom to create the content along with our aesthetic, schedules are always on point, and there's a lot of respect for our work. This might not be the rule here in Portugal but, unfortunately, it's my experience. I can say that I never had a positive experience while working with a Portuguese brand/agency. A while ago, in the space of a week, I had two campaigns to post: one for an international brand and the other for a Portuguese one. The international one was the first one I posted and I was already paid, the Portuguese one, well... I think you know the answer. It's enough that most of the time they want our content in exchange for nothing, but this is almost even worst. I know that it might sound like a first-world problem, but it's something I really had to talk about and I believe that if we come together this will happen less and less. Como fã que sou da Sofia Coppola, já há uns anos que tinha visto o filme realizado por ela baseado neste livro, As Virgens Suicidas. No entanto, apenas recentemente comecei a ter alguma curiosidade pelo livro e quando o vi com esta capa lindíssima (eu sei que não devemos julgar um livro pela capa, mas todos os fazemos) numa livraria em Londres, tive de o trazer comigo. É uma história muito invulgar, mas por alguma razão é ja um clássico. Conta a história das irmãs Lisbon, cinco raparigas que vivem numa casa com um ambiente bastante claustrofóbico e cheio de regras, e que no espaço de tempo de dois anos, todas as raparigas acabam por morrer, por suicídio. Eu sei que pode parecer bizarro ter gostado de um livro sobre suicídio, mas é bem mais do que isso. O que gostei mais no livro foi a forma como a história é contada. Nós nunca sabemos o que vai na cabeça das irmãs Lisbon, porque a história é contada através de outras personagens, rapazes que eram seus vizinhos e que sempre foram obcecados pela sua forma de vida. Por isso, basicamente, as irmãs são um mistério para o leitor e eu adorei isso. É trágico e triste, mas também é muito bonito ao mesmo tempo. Sem dúvida que quero ler mais obras deste escritor.


As the big fan of Sofia Coppola that I am, a couple of years ago, I watched the movie she directed based on this book, The Virgin Suicides. However, I started getting very curious only recently about this book, and when I saw this gorgeous cover (I know, I know, we shouldn't judge a book by its cover but sometimes we do) in a bookshop in London, I had to bring it with me. It's a very unusual story. It tells the story of the Lisbon sisters, five girls who live in a claustrophobic household, full of restricted rules and within the space of two years, all girls are dead, by suicide. I know it's bizarre to say you enjoyed a book about suicide, but it ends up being about so many other things. What I enjoyed the most about this book was the way it was written. We never know much about the sisters, because the story is told through other characters, some boys who were in the neighbourhood that were obsessed with them and their lives. So, basically, the Lisbon sisters are a true mystery for the reader, and I loved that. It's tragic and sad, but beautiful at the same time. I really want to read more from this author.

Basta fazerem uma pesquisa no Google para perceberem o quão importante é para a nossa pele ter uma skincare routine consistente, mas, hoje, eu quero falar do quão importante é a nossa skincare routine para o nosso bem-estar, pelo menos, para mim, é extremamente importante. Tirar uns momentos apenas para mim, quer seja fazer a minha skincare routine depois do banho ou desligar o telemóvel e ler durante umas horas, é algo extremamente importante e que influencia bastante a minha saúde mental. No outro dia, partilhei no Instagram umas das minhas self-cares routines favoritas e perguntei-vos se também é algo que gostam de fazer e que tem importância para vocês. Aqui estão algumas respostas.


You just need to do a quick research on Google to understand how important it is to have a consistent skincare routine for your skin, however, today I want to talk about how important a skincare routine can be for our well-being, at least, for me, it's very important. Taking a few moments to myself, either doing my skincare routine after a bath or switching off my phone and reading for a few hours, it's very important to me and something that hugely influences my mental health. The other day, I share on my Instagram one of my favourite self-care routines and asked you if it's also something you like to do and that you think it's important. Here are some of your answers.

Going on a while and listening to a podcast it's a very important self-care routine to me and I try to do it every single day.

Right, when I wake up, in the morning, meditating for at least 15 minutes it's something I have to do.
