No ano passado li 'O Pintassilgo' da Donna Tartt (que gostei muito) e desde essa altura que queria ler mais da sua obra. Ouvi falar muito bem d'A História Secreta' e foi esse mesmo livro que estive a ler nas últimas semanas. A história é contada através de Richard Papen, a personagem principal, que após ingressar na universidade se junta a um grupo de alunos de grego que descobrem um novo modo de pensar e de viver, baseado nos seus estudos da Antiguidade e que reproduzem rituais que ultrapassam certas barreiras morais. A história divide-se em dois livros, sendo que o que os separa é a morte de um dos membros do grupo. E não, isto não é um spoiler, logo na primeira página é nos contado este acontecimento. Por já sabermos isto, ao longo da leitura deste primeiro livro a escritora cria uma tensão que nos faz devorar a história em poucas horas. A segunda parte já me deixou um pouco dececionada. Não é que não tenha gostado, mas talvez por ter gostado tanto do 'Pintassilgo' e por ter as expectativas bem altas, não foi exatamente aquilo que estava à espera. Já vi muitas pessoas a descrever este livro como um "clássico moderno", mas, apesar de ter gostado, não posso concordar. É um bom livro, mas na segunda parte, a meu ver, falta-lhe alguma coisa. Por isso, se quiserem ler algo desta escritora, sem dúvida, que recomendo muita mais 'O Pintassilgo'.


Last year, I read 'The Goldfinch' by Donna Tartt (which I enjoyed very much), and since then that I've been wanting to read more books by her. I heard a lot of good things about 'The Secret History' so that was the book I was reading in the last couple of weeks. The story is told through Richard Papen, the main character, who after going to college decides to join a group of Greek students that discover a new way of thinking and living, based on their studies and decide to reproduce some rituals that go beyond our moral boundaries. The story is divided into two books, and what separates them is the death of a member of the group. No, this is not a spoiler, you're told this information pretty much on the first page. Knowing this creates tension throughout the chapters, something that the writer does very well and that really makes this book a page-turner. The second part disappointed me a little bit. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't exactly what I was expecting. I loved 'The Goldfinch' so much that I probably had my expectations way too high. I've seen so many people describing this book as a 'modern classic', and, even though I liked it, I can't agree. It's a good book, but in the second part, there's something missing, in my opinion. So, if you want to read something by this author, go with 'The Goldfinch', I enjoyed it way more.

Já há algum tempo que não trazia aqui um outfit. Felizmente, aqui no campo tenho um pouco mais de liberdade o que me permite fotografar mais e em diversos sítios. Tenho aproveitado estes dias de Sol ao máximo e estou mesmo feliz por finalmente começar a cheirar a Primavera. Também este outfit já é super apropriado para a estação, não acham? Nas estações mais quentes, sinto que acabo por usar mais cor que o normal e tenho adorado este lilás. Como sabem, cor não é algo que eu use imenso, serei sempre um rapariga de preto e branco (e bege) essencialmente, mas tenho gravitado para cores mais berrantes ultimamente. E penso que não sou só eu. Passámos por meses tão escuros e difíceis que agora queremos usar cores vivas e alegres para transmitir uma boa energia e, no fundo, sentirmo-nos mais felizes. Não que eu no próximo post que faça vá usar um outfit com todas as cores do arco-íris, mas senti-me mesmo bem nesta cor e, sem dúvida, que me alegrou o dia. Por isso, digam-me, também se têm sentido a gravitar para cores mais vivas ou só mesmo só eu?

It has been a while since I last posted an outfit. Luckily, here in the countryside, I have a bit more freedom so I can take more photos around here. I've been really enjoying the Sun, and I'm so happy that it's finally starting to smell like Spring. Also, this outfit is a very Spring-appropriate outfit, don't you think? I always gravitate towards these colours during the warmer season, and I've been loving this lilac. Something that I'm not always a huge fan of, as you know, I'm a black and white (and beige) kind of girl, but lately I'm really into colour. And I feel like everyone is. We're having such dark months that we all feel like rocking some colourful outfits in order to give some colour to our life, and just feel hapier really. I mean, it's not like I'm going to wear a rainbow outfit next time I'm posting, but I really felt great in this colour. It did lift my mood. So tell, do you also find yourself wearing more colourful outfits, or am I the only one?

Recebo várias mensagens a perguntar como consigo ler tanto e hoje decidi partilhar algumas dicas com vocês. A verdade é que há uns anos pouco lia, foi um hábito que foi adquirindo nestes últimos anos e estas pequenas dicas foram algo que me ajudaram bastante. Espero que também vos ajudem a vocês, especialmente se querem tornar a leitura em algo que faz parte da vossa rotina.


I get several messages asking me how I can read so much, and today I decided to share a few tips with you. The truth is that a couple of years ago I barely read, it's a habit I got this last couple of years, and these tips were very helpful. I hope you find them helpful as well, especially if you want to make reading part of your routine.


Have A Schedule 

Esta é a minha dica número um e funciona mesmo. Tenham um tempo do vosso dia em que se dedicam à leitura e tentem fazê-lo todos os dias. Sabem aquele tempo que passam no telemóvel quando acordam ou quando vão para a cama, porque não ler nesses momentos? Eu adoro ler de manhã, por isso acordo sempre umas horas antes e leio um pouco antes de começar o trabalho.


This is my tip number one, and it really works. Set a time during your day to dedicate to reading, and try to do it every single day. Do you know that time you spend scrolling on your phone before you wake up or before bed? Why not spend that time reading instead? I love reading in the morning, so I always wake up a few hours earlier so I can read a bit before starting my day.




Set Reading Goals

Ter um objetivo pode não funcionar para todos, mas é algo que funciona muito bem comigo. Isto é, todos os dias tenham o objetivo de ler x páginas do livro que estão a ler. Mas façam com que seja um objetivo realista, eu normalmente tenho como objetivo ler 50 páginas por dia, mas também pode ser ler um capítulo todos os dias ou até um número menor de páginas.


Setting a goal may not work for everyone, but it definitely works for me. I mean, every day I have the goal to read a certain number of pages. But make it realistic, I usually try to read 50 pages each day, but it can be reading a chapter every day or 20 pages, whatever feels right and realist to you.


Always Have A Book On Deck

Ter sempre um novo livro para ler e saber que o tenho também me ajuda imenso. Além de ficar entusiasmada para o ler e, por consenquência, acabar o livro que estou a ler no momento mais rápido, também faz com que não tenha momentos mortos entre leituras, isto é, assim que acabo um, posso logo começar um novo.


Always having a new book to read and knowing that I have it, it helps a lot. Besides being very excited to read it which makes me finish the book I'm currently reading faster, it also means that as soon as I finish a book, I can start a new one straight away.



Se me seguem no Instagram, provavelmente já viram que estou no campo. Decidi passar o resto do confinamento aqui e foi das melhores decisões de sempre. Estava cansada do isolamento da cidade, dos dias fechada entre quatro paredes e a minha saúde mental só se vinha a deteriorar dia após dia. Vir para o campo foi uma lufada de ar fresco, exatamente aquilo que estava a precisar. Sinto-me mais inspirada, mais livre e, acima de tudo, mais feliz. If you follow me on Instagram, you probably already saw that I'm in the countryside. I decided to spend the rest of lockdown here, and it was one of the best decisions ever. I was tired of lockdown in the city, locked inside four walls, and my mental health was getting worst by the day. Coming to the countryside was a breath of fresh air, exactly what I needed. I feel more inspired, freer, and happier. I leave with you with some photos from the last couple od days, hopefully, they will leave you with some sense of peace and calm.

I've been loving listening to the oldest episodes, but the latest episode is amazing. Esta foi uma das últimas séries que vi e adorei. Se se querem rir um bocadinho e ao mesmo tempo assistir a uma história que entretém mas que também tem a sua parte de inspiradora, têm mesmo de ver esta série. As personagens são maravilhosas. Têm três temporadas disponíveis e a quarta já foi confirmada.


This was the latest TV Show I watched, and I loved it. If you want to laugh but at the same time watch a story that it's entertaining and also inspiring, you have to watch The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The characters are amazing. There are three seasons available, and the fourth season is already confirmed.

Eu sei que filmes de animação não são para toda a gente, mas vê-los em adulto tem todo um outro significado. Soul é o último filme da Pixar e que filme maravilhoso que é. Toca em temas como a vida, a morte, a alma e muitos outros temas relacionados com a vida humana. Sinceramente, acho que toda a gente o devia ver.

 

I know animation movies are not for everyone, but watching them as an adult they gain a whole other meaning. Soul is the latest Pixar movie, and it's amazing. It touches on subjects as life, death, soul, and so many other subjects related to the human life. Honestly, I think everyone should watch it.

 


Já fazia algum tempo desde que vos trazia este post onde reúno algumas das fotografias do meu rolo de câmara, por isso aqui estão. Algumas são ainda antes do lockdown, outras durante. Também decidi formatar o post um pouco diferente daquilo que costumava fazer. Além de vos mostrar algumas das fotografias em colagem, decidi também escolher as minhas favoritas e falar-vos um pouco sobre as mesmas. Espero que gostem da ideia.


It has been a while since I last brought one of these posts where I put together some photos from my camera roll, so here it is. Some are before lockdown, some during. I also decided to format the post in a different way. Besides showing the photos in a collage, as usual, I also decided to choose some of my favourites and tell you a bit more about them. This one was during lockdown already, and flowers are something that really cheers me up, at least they bring some colour to the house during theses rainy days. This has been my working spot.

Algo de que tenho imensas saudades, o mar e estes dias frios e solarengos de Inverno. Este foi um dos últimos dias antes do confinamento e foi um dia super produtivo. Também adorei este sítio onde fotografei estas fotos: super minimalista e com o mar como pano de fundo. /
I really miss the sea and this cold but sunny winter days. This was one of the last days before lockdown, and it was very productive. I also loved this place where I shot these photos: very minimalist but with the sea as background.

Desde que começou o confinamento que tenho lido imenso e, no passado mês de Janeiro, sinto que li livros incríveis. Nem sempre fico com esta sensação, mas dei imensas '5 estrelas' no Goodreads e não é algo que faça assim tantas vezes. Um desses livros foi este mesmo, o 'Chama-me pelo Teu Nome' do André Aciman. Já tinha visto o filme há uns anos, mas, como todos sabemos, o livro é sempre melhor, por isso decidi lê-lo. Chama-me pelo Teu Nome é uma história de amor entre um jovem rapaz e um convidado de Verão dos seus pais na vila que têm em Itália. A história é contada através de Elio, o jovem rapaz, e é contruída através dos seus pensamentos, emoções, fantasias e medos. E está tão bem escrito que sentimos tudo o que ele sente, por isso, sim, por vezes pode ser uma leitura um pouco dolorosa, mas, afinal de contas, é uma história de amor. Também adorei todo o ambiente do livro. Itália, Verão, é um livro que nos faz sentir imensas saudades do Verão e dos dias quentes. A única coisa que gostei menos foi o seu começo. Quando vi o filme, senti que o começo foi um pouco abrupto e começa logo com a obsessão entre os dois. Estava à espera que no livro fosse um pouco diferente e houvesse um crescimento disso mesmo, algo que não aconteceu, o que me deixou um pouco desapontada no início. Mas o resto do livro compensa tudo isto, adorei.


Since the lockdown started here in Portugal that I've been reading a lot, and I felt like last month I only read brilliant books. I don't always feel this way, but I gave a bunch of 5 stars on Goodreads, and I don't do that so often. One of those books was 'Call Me By Your Name' by André Acima. I watched the movie a few years ago, but as we all know, the book is always better, so I decided to give it a go. Call Me By Your Name is a love story between a young boy and a summer guest at his parents' Italian villa. The story is told through Elio, the young boy, and it's built based on his thoughts, emotions, fantasies and fears. And it's so well written that you really feel everything he feels, so, yeah, sometimes it's a bit painful, it's a love story after all. I also loved the vibe of this book, I mean, it's a book that makes you crave Summer and sunny days. The only thing I dislike is how it begins. When I watched the movie I felt like the obsession between the two started off way too fast, and I was hoping the book was a bit different. I was hoping it had a different build-up, so that was a bit disappointing, but I loved it anyway, so I highly recommend it.

Bem, dois posts novos em dois dias seguidos. Por este facto quase que podiam dizer que estou numa fase super criativa e cheia de ideias, mas a verdade é que é completamente o oposto. Este lockdown tem sido bem mais difícil no que toca a criar conteúdo. No primeiro lockdown era Primavera, por isso tivemos imensos dias de Sol e tempo mais quente. Claro que não podíamos sair, mas é logo outro ânimo. Agora o tempo tem estado miserável. Aqui no Porto tem chovido todos os dias e tenho imensas saudades do Sol. Preciso de bom tempo e boa luz para criar. No entanto, há uns dias combati este mood e decidi maquilhar-me e tirar umas fotos um pouco diferentes do habitual. A ideia era partilhar no Instagram, mas gostei tanto delas que tive de partilhar aqui também. Tenho gostado imenso de brincar com diferentes fontes e incorporá-las nas diferentes fotos. Gostei imenso do resultado e vou tentar trazer algo deste género mais vezes, pelo menos aproveitar os dias em que estou um pouco mais inspirada para criar conteúdo um pouco diferente. Well, two posts on a row. By that, you could almost say that I'm very creative right now and ideas just flow, but it's actually the opposite. This lockdown has been way harder to stay creative and to create content. The first lockdown was during Spring which meant we had Sun and warm weather almost every single day. Obviously, we couldn't get out and enjoy it, but it affected the mood positively anyway. Now the weather has been miserable. Here in Porto has been raining every single day, and I just miss the Sun so much. I need good weather and good light to create. However, a few days ago I tried to beat that and decided to put on some makeup and take a few photos different from usual. The idea was to share them on Instagram, but I like them so much that I had to share here as well. I'm really into playing with different fonts and incorporate them into photos. I really like how they turned out, and I will try to create something like this more often, or at least I will try to take advantage of those days when I feel a bit more inspired to create content a bit different. Well, well... primeira playlist do ano. Eu sei que a playlist do mês passado ficou em falta, mas basicamente ouvi músicas de Natal, por isso não havia muito o que partilhar com vocês. No entanto, novo ano, nova playlist e também muitas músicas novas. Gostei muito da nova música da Lana Del Rey (previsível, eu sei), gostei também muito da nova música dos Foo Fighters Waiting On A War (o novo álbum está quase a sair e pelas músicas que já lançaram vai ser brutal) e, um bocadinho diferente daquilo que costumo ouvir, gostei muito da nova música da Marina, Man's World. Isto e muitas mais na playlist de Janeiro. Podem ouvir aqui em baixo. E vocês? O que andaram a ouvir este mês? Eu confesso que a música é uma grande ajuda nesta altura de confinamento.


Well, well... the first playlist of the year. I know I didn't post a playlist last month, but I basically listened to Christmas' songs, so there wasn't much to share anyway. However, new year, new playlist, and also a bunch of new songs. I really liked Lana Del Rey's new song (predictable, I know), really loved Foo Fighter's Waiting on a War song (the new album is almost coming out and by the songs they already launched, it's going to be amazing), and a bit different from what I usually listen to, I really like Marina's new song Man's World. Como sabem, normalmente, não faço reviews de livros de poesia. Não é algo que leia frequentemente e, como tal, não sinto que saiba o suficiente para criar algum tipo de crítica que vá além do gostei ou não gostei. No entanto, gostei tanto deste livro que tinha mesmo de dizer algo sobre ele. O livro em questão é o 'Dores de Crescimento' da Inês Komakino. É o seu primeiro livro, escrito entre os seus 13 e 24 anos, e está divido em quatro secções. Os poemas abordam temas como o amor, a depressão, o autoconhecimento e "vemos" mesmo a Inês a crescer e a evoluir ao longo dos poemas. Senti que li a essência da Inês. São poemas mesmo muito bonitos e, talvez por sermos da mesma idade, identifiquei-me com imensos deles. Todos passamos pela adolescência, todos passamos pela entrada na vida adulta e tenho a certeza que também vocês se vão identificar com os poemas da autora. É um livro tão bonito e estava tão imersa na sua leitura que o li logo de uma ponta à outra. As ilustrações que acompanham os poemas (da autoria da Inês Isaías) também são lindíssimas. Podem comprar o livro na Contracapa AQUI, super que recomendo. Mal posso esperar por ler mais obras da Inês.


As you know, I don't usually review poetry books. I don't read them frequently, so I don't feel like I know enough to create some kind of review apart from I like it or not. However, I enjoyed this book so much that I really had to say something about it. The book I'm talking about is 'Dores de Crescimento' by Inês Komakino. It's her first book, it was written between her 13 and 24 years old, and it's divided into four sections. The poems talk about love, depression, self-discovery, and you really see Inês growing and evolving throughout the poems. I felt like I read her soul. The poems are so beautiful, and maybe because we're the same age, I related to a lot of them. We all have been through adolescence, we all have been through those first steps into the adult life, and I'm sure you will relate to them as well. It's a very beautiful book, and I was so into it that I read it from front to back in just a few hours. I also have to mention the illustrations by Inês Isaías that are equally beautiful. You can buy the book at Contracapa HERE, but it's only in Portuguese. I can't wait to read more books by Inês.





 

Agora que estamos todos por casa, cada vez procuramos mais coisas para fazer. Os filmes esgotam-se, as séries a mesma coisa e, sinceramente, muitas das vezes canso-me de estar constantemente a olhar para um ecrã. É nessas alturas que os DIY's são fantásticos. No último confinamento decidi fazer alguns colares com missangas, mas, desta vez, estou numa casa nova e decidi criar algumas peças para a decorar. O DIY de hoje são então estes pequenos vasos para decorarem a vossa casa onde podem colocar algumas flores. Eu adorei fazê-lo e, ao mesmo tempo, é uma atividade muito terapêutica.


Here in Portugal, we're currently in lockdown so we're always at home, and I'm always on the hunt for something new to do. The movies ran out, tv shows the same thing, and, honestly, sometimes I get tired of always looking into a screen. That's why I love DIYs. During the last lockdown I decided to do some beaded necklaces, but this time, since I'm at a new house, I decided to create some pieces to decorate the house. So, today's DIY is these small vases you can use to decorate your house and put some flowers in. I loved doing it and found it very therapeutic.





What You'll Need


Argila/Clay (comprei a minha na Fnac / I got mine at Fnac)

Água/Water

Faca/Knife





The Steps

1. O primeiro passo é retirar um bloco grande da vossa argila.

   The first step is to take a big block of your clay.


2. Depois, com as mãos, vão formando uma forma cilíndrica.

   Then with your hands, you will mould the clay into a cylindric shape.


3. Quando tiver o comprimento e a grossura que querem, basta criar o arco e com a ajuda da faca cortar as extremidades de forma a garantirem que se segura de pé e o furo no meio.

    Once you get the length and width that you want, you just have to create the arch, and with the help of the knife cut off the edges to make sure it stands up and create the hole in the middle.


4. Depois basta molharem os dedos com a água para suavizar algumas partes e deixar secar durante, pelo menos, 24 horas.

   Then just wet your fingers with the water and pass them through the surface to make it softer, and let it dry for 24 hours at least.

Desde algum tempo que queria fazer algo relacionado com livros e há algumas semanas atrás surgiu-me a ideia de criar a Contracapa. A Contracapa é uma plataforma de divulgação e venda de livros de escritores independentes. Mas também quero incorporar arte e tenho alguns designs fantásticos a caminho que tenho a certeza que vão adorar. O primeiro livro já está online e pronto para compra (podem comprar AQUI). É um livro que eu adorei ler e deixa-me muito contente que seja o primeiro à venda na minha platfaorma (aliás, esta semana sai a review do mesmo aqui no blog).
