Já há imenso tempo que tinha este livro para ler, mas ia sempre pondo de parte, até que um dia destes me decidi a ler o 'Assim Falou Zaratustra' de Nietzche. Tal como suspeitava é um livro bastante filosófico e, um pouco como os livros de poesia, é bastante difícil para mim de fazer uma review. O livro está repleto de frases fantásticas que nos fazem pensar, por isso hoje decidi partilhar algumas delas com vocês. Talvez através delas percebam o quão bom o livro é e vos apeteça lê-lo também.


I had this book on hold in my reading list for a very long time, but I always ended up pushing it aside until a few weeks ago I decided to read 'The Spoke Zarathustra' by Nietzche. As I suspected it´s a very philosophical book and a bit like poetry books, it´s very hard for me to review it. The book is full of amazing quotes so I decided to share some of them with you. Maybe you will see how great the book is and will want to read it as well. 


1. "I am a forest, and a night of dark trees: but he who is not afraid of my darkness, will find banks full of roses under my cypresses."

Repetir um outfit pode ser um crime no mundo da moda, mas deixem-me dizer-vos que se for esse o caso, então a minha lista de crimes vai bem longa, pois se há algo que eu faço é repetir outfits. Podem não ser exatamente iguais, posso mudar os sapatos ou algum tipo de acessório, mas a base é a mesma. Este mesmo outfit por exemplo pode não ser exatamente igual, mas a fórmula é a mesma deste outfit que publiquei AQUI. Porque é assim tão errado? Damos tanta importância à nossa aparência que já interiorizamos que temos de constantemente ter roupa nova e novos outfits para sermos considerados pessoas com estilo e que se vestem bem. Numa altura em que estamos mais conscientes e que sabemos que temos de tomar decisões mais sustentáveis, não será repetir outfits um primeiro passo? A minha resposta é: sim. Sim, temos de repetir outfits. Temos de usar a roupa que temos no nosso armário diversas vezes e encontrar a diversão nisso mesmo. Comprar roupa nova todos os meses já lá vai, outfit repeating is the new black.


If repeating outfits is a sartorial crime, well, I have to tell you that my list of crimes is pretty long since I repeat outfits a lot. They might not be exactly the same, I might change the shoes or some kind of accessory, but the foundation is the same. This outfit for example is pretty much just like the one I shared HERE. Not exactly the same, but the formula it´s the same. Why is that so wrong? We care so much about our appearance that we think we constantly need new clothes and new outfits in order to be seen as fashionable and stylish. In a time that we are more conscious and that we are trying to make more sustainable decisions, isn´t repeating outfits the first step for that? The answer is yes. Yes, we have to repeat outfits. We have to re-wear the clothes we have in our wardrobes and make the most out of it. Buying new clothes every month it´s so last season. Outfit repeating is the new black.

The posts about books are quite regular here but today I decided to share something a bit different. Maybe it´s not hard to guess, after all, I share so many books with you that you can easily guess my favourites, but today I´m going to share my top 3 of favourite writers. Patti Smith

Favourite Book: Just Kids


Patti Smith, por onde começar. Tenho lido bastantes livros, mas no topo da lista dos meus livros favoritos continua o seu 'Apenas Miúdos'. É um livro de memórias, tal como eu gosto, e está tão bem escrito que nos transporta mesmo para o tempo em que se passou. Claro que desde então tenho seguido o seu trabalho e já li muitos dos seus livros. A Patti tem sempre um trabalho fantástico.


Patti Smith, where to begin with. I have been reading a lot of books lately, but on the top of my list there still is ´Just Kids´. It´s a memoir (my favourite kind), and it´s so well written that really take us to that time. Since then that I´ve been following her work and read a lot of her books. Patti is an amazing and inspiring artist and her writing is amazing.


David Sedaris

Favourite Book: Calypso


Também tenho falado bastante do trabalho do David Sedaris e, realmente, adoro a sua escrita. Então agora que vivemos tempos tão estranhos, os seus livros são uma lufada de ar fresco. São livros extremamente cómicos e sarcásticos e o 'Calypso' foi o livro que mais me fez rir até aos dias de hoje. É mesmo genial.


I´ve been talking a lot about David Sedaris as well, and I love his writing. It really is a breath of fresh air, especially now during these crazy times. His books are so funny and sarcastic and 'Calypso' made me laugh out loud, I don´t think I have ever laughed so much while reading a book. He´s genius.


José Saramago

Favourite Book: O Ano da Morte de Ricardo Reis


Claro que tinha de incluir um escritor português e tinha de ser José Saramago. Desde que li 'O Ano da Morte de Ricardo Reis' (que continua a ser o meu favorito do autor) que tenho lido bastantes livros do Saramago. A sua escrita é bastante peculiar, os temas que aborda são temas muito pertinentes e serão sempre clássicos da literature portuguesa.


I had to include a Portuguese writer and it had to be José Saramago. Since I read 'The Year of Death of Ricardo Reis' (that is still my favourite by the author) that I´ve been reading a lot of his book. His writing is so different, the topics he discusses are so interesting and his books will always be Portuguese literature classics.

 


Eu não sou a pessoa com o armário mais colorido de sempre, cores neutras é o que mais lá podem encontrar , mas quando encontro uma combinação de cores que gosto, uso-a até à exaustão. Há uns anos fiquei obcecada com vermelho e rosa, passei também pela fase do preto com azul marinho (algo que ainda adoro e uso bastante) e, neste momento, tenho uma nova combinação favorita. Pelo título do post poderiam pensar que é preto e branco, realmente adoro e uso imenso. Mas, agora, há outra combinação de cores que roubou o meu coração: verde escuro e azul marinho. Adoro ver estes dois tons escuros juntos. Por isso são estas as cores que me vão ver usar bastante esta estação. Talvez algo mais subtil através dos acessórios como já fiz NESTE post, ou então assim mesmo como neste outfit. Vocês gostam? Têm outra combinação de cores que gostam que acham que eu devia experimentar? Contem-me tudo.

I´m not the person with the most colourful wardrobe, I´m very much into neutral colours, but when I find a colour combination that I love, I just wear it to death. A couple of years ago it was red and pink, I also went through a black and navy blue phase (which I still love and wear a lot) and now I have a new favourite. By the title of this post, you could easily guess that it´s black and white because I truly love that colour combo, and wear it a lot. But, actually, right now, there´s another colour combo that stole my heart: forest green and navy blue. I just love seeing these two very dark colours paired together. So yeah, you will probably see me wearing this colour combo a lot this season. Maybe a bit more subtle with accessories like on THIS  post that I´ve shared, or just like this outfit. Do you like it? Depois de ler A Insustentável Leveza do Ser do Milan Kundera (podem ler a minha review AQUI), fiquei bastante interessada em conhecer mais do trabalho deste autor e foi isso mesmo que fiz. Li A Valsa do Adeus e gostei bastante. Acontece durante cinco dias (cada capítulo representa um dia) e conta a história de oito personagens em que nenhuma delas tem um papel principal, o que por vezes pode ser um pouco confuso. Na verdade, é provável que odeiei quase todas as personagens, todas elas são bastante desagradáveis e mesquinhas, mas são desta forma por uma razão. Klima, um aclamado trompetista de jazz, recebe uma chamada de uma enfermeira grávida que decide que o músico é o pai do seu filho. Este incidente dá início à história e daí começa um desenredo de vários eventos que leva todas as personagens ao spa da cidade. A história é bastante interessante e desperta questões como a moralidade, a vida e o assassinato. Foi uma leitura muito boa, mas não foi de todo o que estava à espera. Kundera é conhecido pela sua literatura e ideias que nos fazem pensar e penso que este livro é daquelas casos que se perde um pouco na tradução. Mas, mesmo assim, gostei bastante e vale muito a pena ler.


After reading The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera (you can read my review HERE), I was very interested in reading more by this author, so it was exactly what I did. I picked up Farewell Waltz and really loved it. It happens throughout fives days (each chapter is a day), and it tells the story of eight different characters, none of whom have a central role which sometimes can be a bit confusing. Actually, you will probably hate pretty much every character of this book, they are very obnoxious and dull, but they are this way for a reason. Klima, a celebrated jazz-trumpeter, gets a call from a pregnant nurse who decides that the musician is the father. This incident sets in motion a chain of events that draw in all the characters to the spa town. The plot is very interesting and it raises questions such as morality, life, and murder. It was a good read, but it wasn´t what I was expecting. Kundera is known for his amazing literature and thought-provoking ideas and I think this book is one of those typical cases that gets lost in its translation. But, despite that, I really enjoyed it.

Quantas vezes estão a fazer scroll no Instagram e se deparam com a foto de alguém com a qual já não se identificam e que no fundo nem gostam do seu conteúdo? A mim acontece-me várias vezes e, na maior parte das vezes, continuo o meu scroll, pois, no fundo, deixar de seguir aquela pessoa traz-me um sentimento de culpa. Mas é algo que me deixa a pensar. Como é que algo tão simples e tão pequeno como carregar num simples botão, nos pode trazer tanta culpa? Hoje em dia, as redes sociais têm um fator tão importante nas nossas vidas que o que nos faz sentir mal no dia-a-dia não é não ajudarmos alguém necessitado na rua, mas sim deixar de seguir alguém que talvez nem conhecemos pessoalmente. Se passamos tanto tempo nas redes socias, não devíamos tentar que esse seja um espaço positivo e inspirador? É isto que tenho perguntado a mim mesma e, mesmo sentindo essa culpa diversas vezes, tenho deixado de seguir várias pessoas. Eu quero abrir o meu Instagram e sentir-me inspirada. Quero ver e guardar fotografias bonitas e quero que realmente seja um espaço que me faz sentir bem. Talvez este seja o detox que realmente precisamos. Your feed. Your choice.


How many times are you scrolling through Instagram and you see on your screen a photo of someone you don´t really identify with and you probably don´t really enjoy their content? It happens to me a lot, and most of the times I just keep scrolling because, deep down, unfollowing that person makes me feel guilty. But it´s something that makes me wonder. How something so simple and small as touching a button, can make us feel so guilty? Nowadays, social media has such a huge role on our lives that unfollowing someone (that we probably don´t even know in real life) on social media makes us feel worst than not helping someone in need on the streets. If we spend so much time on social media, shouldn´t we aim for that to be a healthy and positive space? That´s what I have been asking myself and, even if sometimes I feel that guilt, I´ve been unfollowing a lot of people. I want to open my Instagram feed and feel inspired. I want to see and save beautiful photos, and I want it to be a space that makes me feel good. Maybe that´s the detox we all need. Your feed. Your choice.

O mês de Novembro está aí, por isso, está na altura de partilhar com vocês a minha playlist do mês passado. Na playlist podem encontrar de tudo um pouco, mas tenho de mencionar que estou super viciada na música Before do James Blake, sem dúvida, no meu top de músicas favoritas de sempre. Também gostei muito da nova música da Lana del Rey (chocking, eu sei!) e, num registo completamente diferente, também gostei da nova música dos Viagra Boys. TV Show: Love Life


Ainda não acabei esta série, mas já estou a gostar muito. Trata-se de uma série sobre relacionamentos, não só amorosos, e como estes nos podem transformar. Estou a gostar bastante, é uma série leve, perfeita para nos alearmos um pouco da nossa realidade.


I haven´t finished this TV show yet, but I´m really enjoying it. It´s about relationships, not only love ones, and how they can transform us. It´s really good, and it´s a light story, perfect to get away from reality for a little while.

Comecei a ouvir este podcast há pouco tempo, mas já ouvi uns quantos episódios e um dos mais recentes é uma entrevista com a atriz Catarina Wallenstein. Adorei toda a conversa e sabe bem ouvir um podcast com três mulheres inteligentes a falar de assuntos importantes.


I started listening to this podcast recently, but I already listen to a few episodes. One of the newest ones is this interview with the actress Catarina Wallenstein. I really liked listening to their talk, and it´s good to listen to three smart women talking about important subjects. 


 
Youtube Channel: Jess Alizzi

Já seguia a Jess no Instagram há algum tempo, mas só agora descobri o seu canal no Youtube. Tenho adorado os seus vídeos, especialmente os relacionados com moda. Adoro o seu estilo, por isso tem sido uma grande dose de inspiração.

I followed Jess on Instagram for a while now, but only recently I found her Youtube channel. I really love her videos, especially the fashion-related ones. I love her style so it has been a huge dose of inspiration.



Já estava na minha lista de leitura há algum tempo e, finalmente, comprei-o. Estou a falar do Violet Bent Backwards Over The Grass da Lana del Rey. Como sabem, sou grande fã da artista, tenho todos os seus álbuns, por isso, quando soube que iria lançar um livro de poesia, a vontade de o ler era enorme. E não desiludiu. Ter este livro nas mãos é como ter uma obra de arte mesmo à nossa frente. Está realmente muito bem pensado e adorei todo o layout e, obviamente, todos os poemas também. É, para mim, sempre bastante difícil avaliar um livro de poesia, pois não é algo que eu leia frequentemente, mas estes poemas, realmente, transmitiram-me algo. São extremamente pessoais, ainda mais que as suas músicas e sinto que fiquei a conhecer a artista um pouco melhor. São poemas sobre amor, sobre a fama e sobre felicidade. Tudo isto acompanhado por fotografias da sua autoria. Gostei mesmo muito do livro e, mesmo que não sejam fãs da artista, acho que é um livro que qualquer um vá gostar.


It was one my reading list for a while and, finally, I decided to buy it. I´m talking about Violet Bent Backwards Over The Grass by Lana Del Rey. As you know, I´m a huge fan of the artist, I have all her albums, so when I knew she was going to launch a poetry book, I was beyond excited. And it didn´t disappoint. Having this book in my hands is like holding a masterpiece. It´s so well thought, and I loved the layout and, obviously, all the poems as well. It´s always very hard for me to review a poetry book since it´s not something I read regularly, but these poems really touched me. They are extremely personal, even more than her songs, I felt like I got to know on another level. These are poems about love, fame and happiness. The book also shows photos by her, something that I truly loved. I really enjoyed reading it, and even if you´re not a fan of the artist, I think it´s a book that anyone will like.

Quem não adora uma camisa branca? Eu posso-vos dizer que é das minhas peças favoritas no meu armário, pois é uma peça super versátil. Basta verem os meus últimos outfits para perceberem que as uso realmente muitas vezes. E, apesar de as camisas normalmente serem bastante finas para esta altura do ano, também nas estações mais frias faço uso delas. É das minhas peças favoritas para criar diferentes camadas e as opções são diversas. O mais comum é por baixo de algum tipo de camisola, como uma malha ou uma sweatshirt, algo que também eu sou fã. Mas, ultimamente, tenho gostado imenso de as ver por cima de camisolas, como por exemplo neste mesmo outfit. É algo super simples, mas que nunca tinha pensado até que vi este tipo de styling numa loja a que fui. E é por isso mesmo que eu tanto gosto do Outono, estas formas de criar diferentes camadas em diferentes outfits. Digam-me, gostam deste outfit? 


Who doesn´t love a white shirt? It really is one of my favourite pieces of clothing in my wardrobe, it´s so versatile. You just have to take a look at my latest outfits to realize that I wear white shirts a lot. And, even though they are quite light for this time of the year, I also wear them during the colder seasons. It´s one of my favourite pieces of clothing to create some layers with, and the options are endless. The thing you see the most is wearing it under some kind of top, either it´s a jumper or a sweatshirt, something that I´m a fan of. But, lately, I´m really into wearing them over a top, just like I´m wearing on this outfit. It´s something so simple, but that I´ve never thought about until I saw something like that on a store that I went to. And that´s why I love Autumn so much, there are so many layers you can create in different outfits. But now tell me, do you like it?

Ando numa fase em que ando um pouco farta do meu cabelo. Quero fazer algo diferente, mas também não quero mudar imenso e, enquanto não me decido, tenho adorado experimentar novos hairstyles. É mesmo das melhores coisas de ter cabelo comprido, puder experimentar diferentes penteados com o cabelo. Aqui estão três que eu tenho adorado usar.


I´m going through a phase that I´m really bored with my hair. I want to do something different, but nothing too wild and, while I don´t make up my mind about that, I´ve been loving to try out new hairstyles. It really is one of the greatest things about having long hair, being able to try new hairstyles. So here are three that I´ve been loving right now.


The Bubble Ponytail



Pode parecer super difícil de fazer, mas o bubble ponytail é mesmo muito fácil de criar. Basta fazer um rabo-de-cavalo normalmente e, depois, com a ajuda de mais elásticos criar diferentes secções no cabelo, tentando manter a mesma distância entre elas. Por fim, basta soltar um pouco as secções criadas para criar o efeito bubble.


It might look really hard to do, but the bubble ponytail is really easy to create. You just have to do the regular ponytail and then with some extra rubber bands create different sections in your hair, maintaining the same distance between them. Then you just have to loosen up the sections to create the bubble effect.


The Low Ponytail




Também o low ponytail é algo que tenho usado imenso. Gosto bastante pois é mais relaxado e igualmente fácil de fazer. Apenas têm de fazer um rabo de cabelo normal, mas um pouco mais em baixo. Gosto especialmente de ver este hairstyle com um scrunchie.


Also, the low ponytail is something I´ve been using a lot. I really like it since I find it more relaxed and equally easy to do. You just have to do a ponytail lower in your head. I really like to see this hairstyle with a scrunchie.


The Hair Clip



De todos os hairstyles que vos mostrei, este é para mim o mais difícil de fazer. Na verdade é bastante simples, basta enrolar o cabelo num messy bun e segurá-lo com uma mola, mas o meu problema é que tenho bastante cabelo e, por vezes, é difícil segurar todo o meu cabelo com apenas uma mola. O truque é ter paciência e uma mola bastante grande, se ficar messy também é um pouco o objetivo deste hairstyle.


From all the hairstyles I showed you, to me, this is the hardest. Actually is very simple, you just have to tie your hair around and hold it together with a hair clip, but my problem is that I have a lot of hair and sometimes it can be hard to hold all my hair with just one hair clip. The trick is to be patient and get a very large hair clip, if it gets messy, it kind is the point of this hairstyle anyway.


 


Cool. É uma atitude, comportamento, aparência e estilo que geralmente é bastante admirado. Se procurarem online é esta a definição que vão encontrar. Mas o que significa realmente ser cool? Todos nós o queremos ser, mas tenho a certeza que já conheceram pessoas que se acham super cool, mas que para vocês não o são. Mas por não ser para vocês, não quer dizer que não o seja para outras pessoas. Quer isto dizer que "ser cool" tem diferentes significados? Pelo menos, eu sei descrever o meu. Para mim, uma pessoa cool é uma pessoa que não se esforça demasiado. Que é relaxado e confiante, mas também com estilo e uma boa atitude. Percebem o que quero dizer? Por vezes, gosto de pensar que eu mesma sou cool, mas será que uma pessoa cool sabe que é cool? Não será super contraditório estarmos a auto-intitularmo-nos de cool, sendo que é algo que se tem ou não? Acho que simplesmente temos de concordar que "ser cool" não tem apenas um significado, mas que a sabemos reconhecer quando a vemos, quer sejam pessoas que vemos a passear na rua ou mesmo nós próprios. (Por favor não contem a quantidade de vezes que escrevi "cool" neste post, eu sei que foram muitas).


Cool. It's an aesthetic of attitude, behaviour, comportment, appearance and style which is generally admired. If you search online that's the definition you will find out of cool. But what does cool really mean? I think we all want to achieve coolness, and I'm sure you already met some people who thought they were so cool, but, in your opinion, they just aren't. But the truth is that that person might be cool to someone else. Does that mean that there are different meanings of cool? I sure know mine. To me, a cool person is someone who doesn't try too much. Someone who looks effortless and confident, but also with a great sense of style and a good attitude. Do you know what I mean? Sometimes I like to think of myself of someone cool,  but does a cool person know she's cool? Isn't contradictory to self-claim ourselves as cool if that's something that you either have or not? I think we all just have to agree that coolness doesn't have just one meaning, but agree that we know it when we see it, either if it's someone we see down the street, or ourselves. (Please don't count how many times I wrote down cool in this blog post, I know it was a lot).
