First film diary that smells like Summer. All these photos were taken last week while I was at Vila Nova de Cerveira. I had some pool days, caught some Sun, relaxed, and met other cities. I really like it. This is going to be the last post of this week because today I'm once again on a trip. You know you can follow everything on Instagram. Also, tell me what you think about these photos.
Last week I was on vacation, and even though I'm back in Porto, I still have a few free days that I'm really going to enjoy. I'm saying this because I was thinking about the importance of taking some days to ourselves, especially when you're a freelancer. Yes, it's amazing being able to take some days off whenever I want, but actually taking those days off can be quite hard since those are days that we're not doing anything and there's no payroll department to keep those checks coming while you're under the Sun. The worst part is that freelancers usually are people who need a vacation more than ever since we can work as many hours as we want. I sometimes take some days off to work on other things throughout the year (oh well), but it has been a while since I took some real vacation, maybe since last year, but we really need to know when to stop. We need to give our body and brain a rest to do our job even better. I feel like these days did wonders to me, and I learnt I have to take days off more often and take more advantage of the perks of being a freelancer.
Pink is for girls, blue is for boys. Dresses are for girls, trousers are for boys. Bullshit, right? I love that we are living in an era where these boundaries are fading away, and people are just expressing themselves and having fun. I personally love to dress like a boy. These are the kind of looks I feel great in. I love taking inspiration from more masculine and androgynous looks, and I really think unisex brands are the way. My wardrobe is full of pieces that are mainly men's basics like oversized t-shirts, shirts, tailored trousers, and the list goes on and on. And even when I wear super short dresses (which I also love), I throw an enormous blazer over it (just like in THIS outfit). Right now, I really feel like I found my style. It's masculine, it's girly, it's minimalistic, and everything in between. I don't think I need a label to define my style, and I'm just here for the fun of it.
This week starts beautifully for me because I'm on vacation. Being a freelancer, sometimes it's hard to separate work from personal life, but it was about time that I took some days off just for me and to relax. This week I'm going to the countryside, to the place I love so much and that I already shared over here several times before. I will relax and enjoy nature because in the following week I'm going on the first trip of the year. A friend of mine moved to the Netherlands, and I'm going to visit her and take advantage to visit other Dutch cities. The rest of the Summer I'm planning on staying in Porto, maybe go on a small trip around here and visit other Portuguese cities, and then in September I'm going to Madeira. So these are my Summer plans. I'm really excited, and cannot wait for some days off.
On the other day, I was listening to the podcast Sobremesa (it's one of my favourites, but it's in Portuguese) and the subject was Top 3 of several things, one of them was top 3 of best sensations, and I think it would be fun to do it here on the blog. I chose small things that really make me feel good and that to me are the best feelings in the world. Share with me your top 3, I would love to know.
1. The Bath After A Beach Day
As soon as I heard the subject on the podcast, this sensation was the first thing that came to mind. Nothing better than that bath after a beach day. When we're still warm from the Sun, and let the hair dry naturally, while we're relaxing after the day, so good!
2. Getting Into A Freshly Made Bed
Sleeping is already quite great, but that moment when you get into a freshly made bed with fresh sheets is one of the best things ever, so cosy.
3. A Hot Shower On A Cold Rainy Day
Do you know those very cold and rainy days when it's impossible to get home without being soaking wet? Well, that's terrible, but the bath you take as soon as you get home is priceless, so good and so cosy.
Another book by Saramago that I can take off from my list of books to read. I'm talking about Baltasar and Blimunda (Memorial do Convento in its original form), a classic that it's mandatory to read in school, but just like everyone else, I read the summary, so it was about time I give this book a go. It happens in the 18-century, during the reign of John V king, and it tells the love story between Baltasar and Blimunda, intertwined with the construction of the Convent of Mafra. In its heart, it's a love story. But it's also so much more than that. It's a book that makes you think. Makes you think about class, poverty, happiness, religion and vanity. Just like every book by the writer, it's very sarcastic and very critical of the monarchy and institutional religion. However, I didn't love it. Maybe because I like Saramago so much and it's such a well-known book, I was expecting more. There are books by the writer that I recommend so much more (you can read the post I did with my top 3 HERE). Not Saramago in his best.

Well, as you know, feminism is very important to me. I am a feminist, and as the 2016 Dior T-shirt used to say, I believe we should all be feminists. However, a few days ago I came across an Instagram page that got me mad. The account is called rational feminist. The posts are all quite problematic, but let's start with the name. What the fuck is a rational feminist? Sure, it sounds good and ideally, we all should be rational fighting our causes, but that's not realistic, is it? I don't think we're able to vote nowadays, because women in the past were rational. I don't think we're able to drive, because women were rational. I don't think we're able to leave the country without our father or husband permission because women were rational. We can do that now because women were fearless, brave and bold, and while there's a cause to fight for, I think there's how we should all remain. If you want to see some of the posts on this page, you can check my highlight on Instagram under 'feminism'. I'm not going to share the page because, honestly, I don't want to start a social media fight, I just want to make everyone think, start a conversation, and change some minds to see how wrong this is.
You can't imagine how much I missed Lisbon, and how much I missed just strolling around a city and take photos of the things that caught my attention. I'm really happy with how these turned out, I think they truly showcase my days over there. I already can't wait to go back. I've been getting a few messages asking for the places we visited and what I suggest, so tomorrow I'll be doing a post with all that info. I hope you like the photos.
Sustainable and ethical fashion are both subjects I like to talk about, and I think it's the perfect subject to accompany this outfit since these trousers have a funny story. For the longest time that I wanted these trousers. They're by a brand that I really love, Djerf Avenue, and since they were launched, they were on my wishlist. However, they're from a brand that is ethical and made in Portugal so, obviously, they're expensive. I looked for similar ones on fast-fashion brands and I actually found them, but I reached a point where, first I want high-quality materials, and second, I feel bad supporting that kind of brands. Sometimes, even entering a fast-fashion store is weird to me. To see all the clothing and knowing that in the next week there are going to be completely different clothes in the same place, it's weird to me. I definitely don't want to support that. So I decided to wait, save some money and buy the trousers that I actually wanted. And this is how I want to create my wardrobe. Vintage/second-hand clothes, and pieces from ethical brands. I'm not saying that I'm not buying fast fashion ever again, I like clothes and sometimes certain pieces just speak to you, but I haven't done that in a long time and I will do my best to keep it that way.
