Today I have another classic book to talk to you about. So a couple of weeks ago, I finished 'The Trial' by Franz Kafka. It tells the story of Josef K., a respectable bank officer who is suddenly arrested and must defend himself against a charge he can't get any information about. It's an exquisite examination on bureaucracy and an attack on totalitarian. But despite exploring those themes, I feel like 'The Trial' also showcases society as a whole. You will finish this book full of questions, and the worst (or best, depends on the perspective) part is that you will never get your answers. Is he guilty? Or innocent? Did this actually happen? Or is it a dream? You are just as confused as the main character, but I loved it. Keep in mind that this book was never completed so there are a few chapters with no end, but includes a chapter that clearly brings the story to an end. This book is not for the fragile mind, but I highly recommend it.

"Logic may indeed be unshakeable, but it cannot withstand a man who is determined to live."

Sabem os típicos vídeos 'What I Eat In A Day' que os Youtubers tanto gostam de fazer?

I'm back and today with a post that I had in my mind for a while. Do you know that 'What I Eat In A Day' videos that Youtubers love doing? Well, I had this idea while I watched one of those videos, but instead of sharing with you what I ate in a day (that honestly isn't that interesting), I decided to share the things I have learned in a day.

1. You Shouldn't Apply Sunscreen Right Away

As you know, I was on vacation last week and I spend a lot of time at the beach. And because of that, I've learned that before applying sunscreen, we should always catch some rays of the sun. The time under the sun depends on the tone of the skin of each one of us, but there a lot of people laking vitamin D, and this way you avoid that.

2. Q and 9 Have The Same Sound In Japanese

If you already read the 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami, you already know this, but I'm reading this book right now, and I found it very inspiring. On the Japanese language, the letter Q and the number 9 has the same sound.

3. Aeroplane Food Is Actually Good

I'm pretty sure you already had a plate of food in front of you while you were on a plane and it didn't taste good at all. Most of the times, the fault is not on the food. Actually, the fault is on you. During flights, our taste and smell get reduced up to 50% and that's why that happens.

In today's post I'm not sharing an outfit, not even talking about some topic I found interesting. Today I just want to tell you that next week I'm going to be on vacation, and so the blog will not be updated. I could schedule some posts like I used to do, but I also need to rest without being worry if the posts are being published on time, or worry about sharing them on social media. It's just one week, and I'll be back with new content for you. Hope you're having an amazing summer, and you can keep up with me over on my Instagram. Until next week!

Do you remember me telling you that I was a bit tired of reading fiction books? Well, this book, the 'How Do We Know We're Doing It Right' by Pandora Sykes, was a breath of fresh air to me, it's exactly the kind of book I like to read. It's a collection of essays and they are about subjects/problems that we all live nowadays. They are first world problems, but in the end, that's our reality, and there's nothing wrong with that. The essays on the book aren't necessarily new, but you will relate to them. She talks from the binge-watching TV culture to our relationship with WhatsApp and our phones. It has a lot of research, interviews and quotes which I didn't dislike, but I would have liked more of Pandora's personal experiences than quoting views of others. I found it very interesting, but if you're expecting any kind of answer to the titular question, you will be left disappointed. I don't think it's the kind of book everyone will love, but it's definitely a gorgeous book of modern essays, and I highly recommend it.

"...reading a book allows you to be, for so long as the covers hold you, truly quiet and undisturbed. It is the only time when I feel that I am escaping the noise of the contemporary world."

Here are some photos from my phone's camera roll. Even though I love shooting with cameras (either they're analogue or digital), I also love how easy it is to take photos with my phone. And, besides posting those photos here in this kind of post, I'm starting to also post them on my Instagram feed. They're photos that didn't have much thought behind, and I like how natural they are. Well, I hope you like these photos.

If you watch Youtube videos regularly, I'm pretty sure you already watch some videos about unpopular opinions. I really enjoy those videos, and if there's something I have a bunch is unpopular opinions, I mean, opinions that not everyone agrees with. So, I decided to do my version of those videos in a blog post. Please, don't take it too seriously, this is supposed to be funny (is it though?).

Highlighter Sometimes Looks Very Weird

We all love highlighter, it's a step in our daily makeup that we just can't jump, but I hate it when it is too much, and nowadays you see that a lot. The one on the tip of the nose I just don't get it. It's too much, it looks oily, and I think it's one of those trends that in a few years from now we will look back and wonder what the hell were we thinking.

TikTok Songs Suck

You already know my opinion on TikTok, I'm not a fan and I don't think I will ever be, and the worst part is that all songs that became popular because of the app are awful. I just can't name one that I like. And I don't have TikTok, and I still know them all, they are everywhere.

Setting A Bunch Of Alarms Is The Way To Wake Up

You can say whatever, but the best way to wake up in the morning is to set a bunch of alarms. Yes, I'm that kind of person. Every 10 minute I have an alarm, and this way I wake up slowly. People who only set one alarm always end up falling asleep again (and you know it's true).

Some moments on film and this film has some of my favourite photos ever. The first one is one of them. As I said over on my Instagram when I posted it, I still can't believe I caught this moment on film. But you can find more photos from these last couple of days down below, I hope you like them.

Another week coming to an end, another post with some things I loved this week that I want to share with you. There's no need to say more about this post, against what I thought, I've been doing it every single week, so you already know what to count with. I hope you like it.

Footwear Brand: Esc

I found this brand by accident while I was strolling around the city. I decided to go inside the store (and bought a pair of shoes that I'm going to show you soon) and I found out that it's a footwear Portuguese brand. They have a huge range of shoes, and their mission is to be as sustainable as possible. I already have another pair on my wishlist.

Podcast Episode: Munroe Bergford from I Weigh with Jameela Jamil

As usual, I had to share an episode podcast. For a while now that I've been following Jameela Jamil's work, but only recently I found out her podcast and her I Weigh movement (you can see more about it HERE). Actually, I think you should listen to all the episodes, they are all very interesting. However, this one with Munroe Bergford was one of my favourites. I learned a lot and understood what it is to be a transexual woman living nowadays.

Instagram Page: @thedaily35mm

An Instagram page that I follow where I find a lot of photographers that I end up sharing with you is this one. As you can tell by the name, they only share film photos and on the account, you can find photos from different photographers. Very very inspiring.

I've talked several times before how we can, easily, change a piece of clothing that we don't wear into something completely new. Cutting off a pair of jeans to get some new shorts is very easy, or cutting off a T-shirt to get a cropped top. But I had this polo shirt in my wardrobe (you can see on THIS Instagram post how it was before), and I wanted to do something different with it. Until I found Araucana and their upcycling atelier. For the ones who don't know, upcycling is the process of changing a product into something new, in this case, it's changing a piece of clothing. I had a few ideas, but Ana, the designer, really came up with some ideas that I loved and made the process really easy. This is not a sponsored post, I genuinely loved the final result, and I think you should know about this store that has such a great concept. As I already said on the Instagram post, what used to be a polo shirt that I barely wore, now is a piece I'm going to wear on repeat this summer.

I found some photographers accounts on Instagram that I've been loving, so it was about time to share with you a few more accounts so that you can be inspired as well. Once again, all the photos shared on these accounts are on film. It's something that I really love, and so I like to see other people's perspectives. I hope you like them as well.

On my classic books' list to read, I had 'Brave New World' by Aldous Huxley, and that's the book I was reading for the last couple of weeks. Set in London in 2540, the dystopian novel anticipates huge scientific advances in reproductive technology, psychologic manipulation, classical conditioning, all of these changing the society tremendously. It reminded me a lot of 1984 (you can read my review HERE), but there's a huge difference between the two novels: in this one, everyone is happy. However, this is a controlled happiness. No one has ideas anymore, no one needs to stand out. Something that I found very interesting is that exposes issues that are problematic in our time: consumerism, censorship and individualism. It's a brilliant book, but it's a difficult read, but I'm sure all dystopias are. I enjoyed it and I recommend it if you like this kind of stories, but it's not my type of book. I love to read about real stories, things that actually happened, and even though I found it very interesting, I don't think I will be reading a dystopian novel in the future. But if you enjoy this kind of books, here's another recommendation. There are a lot of opinions about 1984 and Brave New World, but I prefer the latter.

"But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin."

Like it or not, if you're reading this, I'm pretty sure you're addicted to your phone, or at least you're addicted to social media. I know it might be hard to swallow, and I'm sure that, just like me, sometimes you like to think you don't spend that much time on your phone. But the truth is that if you're a young adult, you're addicted to social media. We didn't have much choice, social media apps were designed in order to be addicted, and they nailed it. If you don't believe it, just check the average time you spend on your phone, or even better, just analyze your behaviour. Just put it this way: what did you do when you're waiting for something/someone? I'm pretty sure you scroll through social media. What do you do while you're watching a tv show and it gets a bit boring? You scroll through social media. What do you do while you're watching a Youtube video? You grab your phone and you check social media. What do you do when you're writing a blog post? Oops, just did it. And sometimes we're even checking social media while we're on a phone call with someone. This is what I like to call the Instagram brain. We just can't focus on one single thing. We always have our phone by our side so we can check Instagram/Twitter/TikTok/whatever you choose (but let's not mention Facebook because does anybody still use it?). It's scary, and if this isn't an addiction, then I don't know what it is. You can call it whatever you want, but the first step to recovery it's to admit it, so at least I think I'm on the right path. And the next time you're watching an episode of your favourite series, leave your phone in a different room of your house, let me know how that goes.
